PATRIOT ANCESTOR

JOHN CADE

The son of Stephen Cade and Mary Gibson, John Cade was born in the year 1735 at Edgecombe Co., North Carolina. During the Revolutionary War he served in the North Carolina Militia. In the year 1787 John, who resided at Ashpole, was selected as one of three Commissioners to organize the new county of Robeson, North Carolina. Subsequently John was selected as one of the five delegates to represent Robeson County at North Carolina's 1788 constitutional convention, held at Hillsborough, charged with deciding whether North Carolina would ratify the new United States Constitution. Although John voted for ratification, it failed. Another convention was held in 1789 for which John was again selected as one of the delegates representing Robeson County, and at which the majority of North Carolina's convention delegates, including John, ratified the United States Constitution. John died at Robeson Co., North Carolina in the year 1801.
