James Caldwell was born in was born in the year 1749 at Lancaster Co., Pa. During the Revolutionary War James served in the Pennsylvania militia in Capt. John Nelson's riflemen company, attached to Col. John Phillip DeHass's batallion and later attached to Col. Anthony Wayne's battallion. John died in the year 1816.
