WILLIAM MEREDITH
William Meredith was born in the year 1742 at Hanover Co., Virginia. William removed to Surry Co. North Carolina where he was a plantation owner. During the Revolutionary War William served in the North Carolina militia. In October 1780, under the command of Col. Benjamin Cleveland, William led a group of militia down the Blue Ridge mountains to confront the British in the battle of King's Mountain in South Carolina. William also fought with the Surrey Co. militia in skirmishes with Tory militias in North Carolina both before and after the battle of King's Mountain. For his Revolutionary War services William was subsequently granted land in Adair Co., Kentucky, where he settled about the year 1800. William died at Adair Co. Kentucky in 1828.
